Silva vs Sonnen bout targeted for UFC 117 in Salt Lake City, Utah

According to MMAJunkie.com, the long-anticipated fight between the UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen will take place at the EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City, on August 7th. Anderson Silva will look to prove his worth as one of the best Pound for Pound fighters in the World, after a disappointing circus-themed performance against Demian Maia at the main event of UFC 112.

Meanwhile, Chael Sonnen stated that he doubts "The Spider" will sign the cotract for the fight. Sonnen continued his never-ending verbal attack on the Brazilian phenom, by declaring that he will heal "the cancer" of Anderson Silva:

"I don’t know if Anderson’s going to accept. The best I’ve seen, Silva a man of his word. If I hear that he agreed, I’ll feel a lot better. He won’t even acknowledge the challenge. He just overlooks it like it’s not happening. Silva is really good, he’s really effective, and he’s as unpleasing to watch as grass growing. That’s why they called me to get rid of this cancer of the company."

The last man to knockout Chael Sonnen was the former UFC and Strikeforce prospect Terry Martin, more that six years ago. Thirty-three year old Chael Sonnen is currently 24-10 in his Mixed Martial Arts career, with notable victories over Yushin Okami, Paulo Filho and Nate Marquardt.
