With all the formallities now completed, UFC Champion Brock Lesnar and number contender Shane Carwin have both signed all agreement contracts to ahead of their UFC 116 meeting in Vegas on July 3rd, which means all systems are now go for what can only be described as a true heavyweight Clash of the Titans.
Both fighters were originaly set to meet at UFC 106, however Brock's battle with diverticulitis put the war on hold. It was later revealed that Lesnar had battled with the illness for up to a year before the bout. The illness an intestinal disorder, which required surgery. After further diagnosis, on November 16 Lesnar underwent surgery to close a perforation in his intestine that had been leaking fecal matter into his abdomen, causing pain, abscesses, and overtaxing his immune system to the point that he contracted mononucleosis.
During the champion's absence, a preliminary title bout between Carwin and Frank Mir was set for UFC 111. Carwin quicly dispatched of Mir, once again cementing his number 1 contender status, rewarding him with what Lesnar described as "an imaginery belt".
Lesnar won the UFC title in a bout with Randy Couture at UFC 91, and currently holds an mma record of 4-1. He is also a hugely decorated national wrestling champion (real, not wwe, which obviously counts for nothing at all in mma).
Carwin holds an undefeated record of 12-0, with 7 ko's and 5 submissions. To date, his longest fight has lasted just 228 seconds, which was his bout with Mir.
