The UFC has released welterweight Yoshiyuki Yoshida and heavyweight Tim Hague from their contracts following losses at last Saturday's UFC 113 event. News of the releases were first reported by MMAFighting.com.
The release of Yoshida and Hague pushes the number of fighters cut following performances at UFC 113 to five. Jonathan Goulet, Kimbo Slice and Paul Daley were all released earlier this week.
Yoshida has lost two straight bouts inside the Octagon against Anthony Johnson at UFC 104 and Mike Guymon last Saturday at UFC 113. Prior to the losses, he defeated Brandon Wolff at UFC 98 last May.
Yoshida exits the UFC with a sub-par 2-3 record, suffering a loss in his sophomore effort with the promotion against Josh Koscheck at UFC Fight Night 16: "Fight for the Troops," after defeating War Machine (Jon Koppenhaver) in his UFC debut in May of 2008 at UFC 84.
The 36-year-old is also a veteran of other notable promotions such as Cage Force and Shooto. He has put together a 11-5 MMA record over his five-year professional career, with stoppages coming in all but one of his 11 wins. Yoshida holds notable career victories over Matt Cain and Akira Kikuchi and also holds a win outside the UFC over Dan Hardy.
Hague re-signed with the UFC in April after being released from the promotion in February, however, his second stint with the promotion would prove short lived. He departs the UFC this time around after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Joey Beltran on the un-aired preliminary portion of last Saturday's UFC 113 card.
Hague leaves the UFC with a dismal 1-3 record, defeating Pat Barry in his Octagon debut at UFC 98, which was then followed by two straight losses against Todd Duffee at UFC 102 and Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 109.
Hague is a longtime veteran of King of the Cage, fighting eight of his 14 career fights with the organization. He sports a 10-4 overall MMA record, with eight of those wins coming by stoppage.
