As StrikeForce officials have already confirmed that their prized heavyweight asset Fedor Emelianenko would be facing former UFC veteran Fabricio Werdum at an upcoming StrikeForce event on June 26 in San Jose, California a middleweight rematch has also been signed as former 185 pound champion Cung Le will once again take on Scott Smith in an epic bout that took place at the same location this past December which resulted in yet another comeback victory for MMA’s “Cinderella Man” in Scott Smith.
MMAWeekly.com reports that sources close to the fight have confirmed that the match-up was set as late as of Wednesday night.
Prior to the first fight at StrikeForce: “Evolution” last December, Cung Le (6-1) was currently the StrikeForce middleweight champion, but due to a busy second career as a movie star in Hollywood, Le relinquished the title as he was uncertain as to whether or not he would be coming back soon. However, one month later Le was back and ready for action just before the holidays and was looking great in what would have been a lopsided win for the 37 year old San Jose native until the late rally from ‘Hands of Steel’.
Scott Smith (17-6) who is a former UFC veteran in his own right, has made a name for himself within the StrikeForce organization as he has pulled off the late dramatics in 3 fights last year, which included his late rally against Cung Le where Smith was able to stymie the former champion with his heavy handed power to gain the biggest win of his career by far, but can he make it happen once again.
StrikeForce: “Fedor vs Werdum” will be held at the HP Pavilion (The Shark Tank) in San Jose, California on June 26, but no word on whether the event will be aired on cable network Showtime or on nationally televised CBS.
